Hey hey Maria Nay... or just you there!
Did you just find this blog accidentially and are you now wondering what this blog is about? The answer is easy - this blog tries to handle everything which happens around actor, director, producer and musician Kevin Costner. Because Kevin gets on well at stage now, this blog is a lot of about his music career and his performances with his very own band, Modern West. The other Modern Westerners with Kevin are Teddy Morgan, Larry Cobb, Park Chisolm, Bobby Yang and Kevin's long-time friend Join Coinman with whom he once had a band.
Enjoying his fabulous music and performances,
I am - atleast myself - hoping and begging he would be seen on the 'big screen' some day! I know some of his other fans share this opinion with me. At this time, it seems that he will be still starring some movies in the future and this piece of news gives us much hope and love!
Do you actually know why is the band called Modern West? When they were building the band, Kevin firstly suggested the band would take name "Modern West". However the other members somehow disagree with Kevin and said "Kevin Costner & Modern West" would be a better one. In my opinion this name is a lot better because that's how people get know that Kevin is in it - but only a part of it.
By the way, when it comes to Modern West, they've played music together since 2007 when Kevin found his music soul again by a encouragement by his lovely wife, Christine. Kevin himself described the establishment of his band in this way:
MODERN WEST GOT ITS START when my wife (Christine) encouraged me to reconnect musically with John Coinman.
I wasn’t really sure after all these years how it might work. I wasn’t really sure what to say. But if life has taught me anything it was not be stopped by the question or the unknown. “F… it, what do I have to lose but maybe some of the best times of my life?”
I made the call to Tucson. “John what do you think?” He never hesitated, willing to explore the idea. But it was always more than just an idea for me. It was a feeling that I had been unable to articulate. For a long time now I have felt the need to connect with people in a more meaningful way than just the autograph. I have found myself here and around the world in different situations where the only exchange has been just that…a quick signature on the run usually followed by a “gee, he’s taller than I thought.”
I always thought that music could build a stronger, more personal moment for me. It would create the opportunity for a genuine exchange much greater than the movie, TV interview or magazine. It would be real, full of mistakes and without apology. But most of all there would be the chance to have some fun. The question was, would it work? I thought it could but I wasn’t really sure. I had been out on creative limbs before, and this felt familiar.
I asked John to get some guys together starting with Blair Forward who was in the first and only band I was ever in. John would pick the rest. If we were to play together the majority of our music would have to be our own compositions. What ever else we played would be old favorites of mine. They would come from friends, some famous and some who probably should be. The rest would be from artists that I have enjoyed over the years. If we played it would be Live, Loud and Long. The idea was simple. Don’t stop the party. Everybody understood and everybody went to work.

And when it comes to me - the Long hot night blogger from a freezy cold country Finland in the Northern Europe - I feel I am a huuuuuuge Kevin Costner fan. I've seen his every single movie. I've grown up along his movies and noticed that he's very talented man to act! Now, since he has played music, I've noticed that he has got really great voice to sing and I have to admit that I'm hooked on his music...not to forget my passion to his movies either!
